Tasting notes
Three cups
- 1the first hour
First sip
A clean, sweet opening. The tutorial is brisk, the first buildings go up fast, and the Bronze Age arrives before the cup cools. Nothing surprising yet; the complexity is still steeping.
- 2the first week
Mid-cup
By the first week the body shows. Great Buildings, guild expeditions and the research tree start feeding each other, battles on the little hex map stop being formalities, and every day has a next thing. The shop is present but easy to ignore at this stage.
- 3a month in
Finish
Weeks later the finish is long and slightly bitter. Progress slows from the Late Middle Ages unless your guild is active or your wallet is open, and the events overlap in a way that tastes of homework. Still the deepest, most rewarding cup here, and the one we kept coming back to.
Pairs with
- Players who want one game for six months
- Guild people who like a weekly plan
- Anyone switching between laptop and phone
Leaves a bitter note if
- Mid-game slowdown from the Late Middle Ages on
- Events that overlap, each with a paid tier
- Tight city space that pushes you toward diamonds
